As it was damaged by the earthquake of seven grade on 3rd February, 1996, Lijiang people have been deeply impressed by the charities. After the earthquake, the charitable organizations at home and abroad have given hands to Lijiang, sending medicine, money, clothes and so on, which made Lijiang people feel the the warmth of the society. There are totally 81 charitable organizations donating 43,495,000 yuan to Lijiang, which has played a great role in the re-establishment. As Lijiang people have acknowledged the impressive affection of the charities, they are determined to learn from the charitable organinations at home and abroad and help the people in trouble.

Because of lots of historic and natural causes, more than 400,000 persons are living in poor in Lijiang, 100,000 persons are in trouble caused by natural damage, over 80,000 disabled are living poorly, 1,500 orphans need help, 50,000 pupils, high school students and undergraduates have to leave school because of their poor families and 40,000 senior persons need the aid of the society. It is not enough of the aid of the governments to help these people, all the others should give a hand to help them. So the leaders of the original civil administration of Lijiang and the well-known people in Lijiang have proposed to form charitable organizations.
　
The Lijiang Charitable Organization was established in the beginning of 1997. The formal establishing ceremony was held on 29th May, 1998. In December, 2002 the city of Lijiang was formed instead of the prefecture of Lijiang. There are 18 group members and 260 personal members in Lijiang Charitable Organization.

There are 15 honorary presidents, 7 honorary vice-presidents, 33 honarary members. There are 42 members of all walks, 13 executive members, 1 president, 6 vice-presidents, 1 Secretary-general and 1 vice-Secretary-general. The president is taken charged by Ma Lichao who is also the Secretary-general.

There are the Office, the Donating Department, the Charity Department and Fund-supervising Department in the organization. There are 5 executive stuff. In 4 counties and 1 district the second departments in which there are 3-5 full-time or part-time executive workers have been established.

The original fund of Lijiang Charitable Organization is the forever one which is used to guarantee the operation of the organization.

The decree of Lijiang Charitable Organization is to develop the humanitarianism, to widen the virtue of the Chinese people and to develop the justice and civilization of the society.

The organization abides by the national laws and regulations, carries out the national policies and is directed by the administrative departments.

The tasks of the organization are to rally all walks of the society, to get more fund, to hold different kinds of charities, to communicate with other charitable organizations, to serve the people and organizations that will have charitable activities and to publish books and datums.

There are members congress, coucil and executive coucil of the organization. The members congress is held every five years. The coucil will carry out the determination of the members congress. According to the work, the working departments were established to deal with the everyday affairs.

The resources of the fund: the aid of the governments, the donation of the social organizaions and persons, the earning of the charitable activities, the earning of the enterprises and other legal earnings.

The fund is used to aid differet kinds of charitable organizations and charities, to help the people who need help, to hold charitable activities and other legal activities.

The property of the organization belongs to the organization. Other organizaions and people mustn't misused.

The organization is the group member of China Charitable Organization and the Yunnan Charitable Organization. It is also directed by them. The fund of the organization is supervised strictly by China Charitable Organization and audited by the auditing bodies.
